To Your Left Or To Your Right

I'm never behind you
    I'm never ahead,
I keep in the shadows
    beside you instead.
No matter the distance
    how near or how far,
Wherever you wander
    I'm right where you are.
If today or tomorrow
    you think that you might,
Need me for something
    look left or look right.
