To You, O Mother
When the season turns from winds to carols
When time for sorrel brew arrives
When gungo gives no more honey to the hives
When the poor rejoices in our morals
When it's time to clean the shade and light
The "Home Sweet Home" lamp again
When the barter is being mixed, and pain
Comes like birds from northern flight
When I cry in silence
I cry for you again, O mother, dear.
Then devoid of evidence
For what I toil ... to bring you honor rare
Striving by scholarship and grace
To bring you wealth, esteem and joy
How miserable is this empty place
And the dreams aborted for you boy
When the roll up yonder calls all name to see
The glory of God's unfailing splendor
Then I shall hope to see
The greatest tribute there to you, to you, O mother.
