To You: a Love Sonnet
Here I must try to capture what I know,
Of things unknowable within my mind,
The lure of love now summons me to go,
In questing for the best words I may find.
All’s summoned deep from roots within my heart,
To craft a song with verses that tell true,
Of Heaven and the torment when we part,
My hoping and my pure delight in you.
The beauties that I value above all,
Are yours. Within the compass of your frame,
They shine, a rose before its petals fall,
Or as a spray of blossom after rain.
These then are lines I’ve crafted at this hour:
For this plain earth your beauty is the flower.
