To See Thee More Clearly
One year when our children were young
We took a trip to the Black Hills area
Where we stopped to our cave
That was advertized to be one of the deepest in the world
At one point
The guide turned off his lantern
So we could experienced the absolute darkness
Two people found the situation so frightening
That they had to be escorted out of the cave
Sometimes we have to experience the total lack
Of something before we appreciate
How much we depend on it
Like the sun
God’s light is always there
But we can put ourselves in a position
Where we don’t let it penetrate our hearts
Rage
Resentment and jealousy all block the love
And mercy that we most need
And keep us from seeing a person
Or situation clearly
It is in those moments that we make the choice
To stay in the darkness
Or call out for light
