To Love Thy Neighbor

To love thy neighbor as thyself, demands self-love... Is that not selfish ~ If I am not for myself who will be for me? _________________________ The first 8 syllables are from Leviticus 19:18. The last two lines are from 'Ethics of the Fathers,' 4:14.

This makes me ponder. So I shall take my leave as pondering takes time.

If you're still pondering, Caren, you might as well make your way down to the 'Ponderosa.' I hear Dan Blocker still hangs out there... :) gw

Just take care not to mull this over too long, Milt -- for then you just might become a 'mullah.' lol. Thanks, gw

Deb, instead of 'Mr. Gershon Wolf,' please call me Wershon Golf -- or anything except 'Mr.' Please?! With a cherry on top?! Thank you, Deb, and thank you for all of your support. Much appreciated, Wershon

Quite a pertinent question....! Your poem, though small is weighty and gives scope for deep contemplation. Self love is needed for loving others.

i prefer tp be 'small and smart,' as opposed to 'big and dumb.' lol. Unfortunately, I turned out big and not-so-smart. lol. ... Thank you so much for your encouragement, Valsa. Peace and Tranquility, Gershon

I enjoyed reading this one. I always think about the fact that a person has to love themselves to be able to love others. That is a hindrance for some in that they cannot really love themselves and for others they love themselves too much or is theirs really not love at all. I like the way that you put the two of those literatures together. I was delighted you stopped by my page. Sara

Thank you for your reflections on love of self vis-a-vis love of others, Sara... Here's to unconditional love, Gershon

It’s hard to love oneself when we know all our faults, but we must love our neighbours faults and all… Belle

There you go. A wise counterweight to the thoughts I penned, Belle. Thanks, Gershon

Gershon, "If I am not for myself ~~ who will be for me?" A message gleaned from testament still ageless despite the age. -Richard

Thank you, Richard... Then again, the next part of this bit of wisdom goes like this: 'But if I am only for myself, what am I?... And if not now, when?' ~ Gershon
