To Love Again

A late afternoon—alone on a small hill
listening to the wind and the soft call of the whippoorwill
he sits in contemplation
as his heart feels ache and frustration
he yearns for a special girl—how he desires her presence here
to hold him close…to wipe away each falling tear
“Hey, sweet doll,” he’d call to her gently
“Come be with me…I’m so tired of these feelings of woe
rejection, loneliness and sorrow
“Sweet girl, all I want, all I ask
please, please, take away all my anguish and pain
come into my heart, stay with me
all I want…is to love again”
