To God I Wish, To God I May
To God I wish, to God I may,
These thoughts that cause innard decay!
Though born these sins already say
The word who rules my every day.
My scorn this hour is high as hills!
Forlorn I lie, bear faulty wills.
To God I wish, to God I ask
Take flesh of dirt and make it grass!
The worm it crawls inside my bones,
My sinews, joints, my skin and Oh!
Not for despair I cry this grief, alone
With me to enjoy the brink
Of lusts. It is salt in my mouth and satan's rod.
But- He who makes my soul depart,
To love with peace and joy of heart
Will keep the promise through and through.
Why do I mourn? The day is new.
