To Face the Day
She stares not up to face the sky,
To see the clouds that float on by.
She stares not down to watch her feet,
The concrete and dirt which they might meet.
She stares but one way and that’s straight ahead,
To face the day until it’s dead.
She’ll think no bad thoughts to mar the day.
She’ll think of nothing wrong to say.
She’ll think not of the things she’s lost.
She’ll think not of the moments she’s tossed.
She’ll think one thing to make it right,
And that’s to face the day without a fight.
She does no wrong to face a cell,
Or wind up at the gates of hell.
She tells no lies and brings no harm.
She’ll never twist a stranger’s arm.
She’ll do just this to make life great,
Face each day and walk on straight.
