To Exist and To Drink

Do you eat in order to live?
Or do you live merely to eat?

A grand proposition indeed—
Yet answerless.

Though you may dream,
We shall never truly know.

"I think, therefore I am."
Descartes’ dictum—
Cast it all aside.

Simply because we exist,
We drink water.

That irresistible force!
We drink of your sweet honeyed water.

The following day—
"We brush our teeth,
and retch it all back."

Before me, a blade of grass
Sways gently in the breeze,
Slumbering in peaceful sleep.
