To Battle Hard Addiction

My demons were my spirits
They are what I used to drink
Now I sit back eating sherbets
I am forever on the brink

To battle hard addiction
You have to really want
To avoid a lot of friction
Watch where you take a jaunt

My battle was with the bottle
And some addictive drugs
I did them all full throttle
Left so many empty jugs

I was laying on my floor
Could barely find a pulse
Then a friend came to the door
I was starting to convulse

Looking through my life
I do have a few regrets
But I am nicer to my wife
We love watching the sunsets

There was no intervention
I cleaned up on my own
Do it all with good intention
In the end it will be known

I was used to falling over
But now I’m standing up
I found a four leaf clover
And it sure does bring me luck

Now have no battle with liquor
Or even more addictive things
Now can look at me and snicker
And you won’t get any swings

If I could start all over
I would change everything
Search earlier for a clover
And the luck that it can bring

Have you seen addiction
Or battled with it yourself
Have you caused a lot of friction
Just to blame it on an elf

Healed from all affliction
I am standing on my own
Now on my newest mission
My possibilities have grown
