To Annie
To Annie
I weep for you as I remember your days,
Your little alert smile, your taunting plays.
Though you have been left with your comforting snore,
You must amble through to find a door.
Why, oh, why, did you lose your sight,
And be afraid when you wake at night.
You open your eyes and it is still dark,
And you manage to speak a little low bark.
I am learning from you as I must guide,
Even to your food dish and water supply.
For your own safety, you yield to your leash,
We walk in morning light you seem to still see.
Oh, my little white aging ball of fur,
We are fading together to a better world.
