To a Soldier's Grave
It lies over the hill and far away
That old run down farm with a moon eyed dog
A million miles from this hill where I lay
A hole in my chest - my brain in a fog
Damn these wars with their suffering untold
Damn the men who plunge into the abyss
My body cries out to release my soul
But somehow I smile - I am ready for this
My life unreels before my weary eyes
I think of the bride who was never to be
And dreams galore I didn't realize
I was a soldier - a soldier you see
I see my grave with a rose on the stone
One tear falls slowly as I die alone
