Titanic

What is the noise I hear,
could it be a loud cheer?
Oh no my dear,
we must leave and go the ship's rear.
Looks like the lifeboats are all gone,
the stars and moon are out before dawn.
We must not be afraid,
just listen to the music being played.
Maybe we should say our good-byes,
guess this new ship was not a great prize.
Do you really think we will die,
you are my girl and I am your loving guy.
Take this love note and my pen,
my darling one day we will meet again.

A fine entry for the contest, Paula. Alas my own effort went ‘overboard’, ie… in completely the wrong direction. Best of luck. Terry

It is weird to imagine writing something as the ship sinks. I did this challenge too. Just haven't posted it yet. I wish us both good luck.

A heart rending good bye.... ! The story of Titanic, even after years, stays as a dark memory in human history! How many had to be buried in the water bier. But nothing is without hope. In the other world, they will meet. Thus the poem ends on a hopeful note.

Touching and sad, dear Paula: When it comes to our last moment all we have left is fear or love, perhaps that is why they say, Love conquers all. Hugs, SuZ

Your poem is beautiful, and so sad Paula. It is a precious tribute to the lovers who perished in that tragically fated ship so deemed as 'unsinkable'.

Beautiful in its sorrow, Paula. I saw the 1997 James Cameron directed movie, "Titanic." The tears were streaming down my daughter's and my cheeks. So tragic. And the poor people in steerage so criminally neglected, not enough lifeboats, etc. My very best wishes for the contest. Hugs xx

A couples last moments surreal. As the band plays on and goodbye's steer the ship down under to its death or maybe no death, like you inspired. Peace to the Titanic, a wonderfully penned piece Paula!

Meanwhile, I greet you with a Joyous New Year with this prayer from the Bible in Numbers 6:24-26, "The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace."

Too sweet of a suite, Paula. Alas, all things of matter come to an end ... I therefore must wait for it to begin, --soon it'll be spring when magic begins. Aloha 2024, my friend.
