Tiny Heart

Tiny Heart

I carried your tiny heart in me
Though I never heard it’s beat carefree
Through tiny veins scarlet ribbons flowed free
Fragile heartbeat in unbridled glee
Mother and child joined in pure jubilee
But the future of your heart I could not see
Too soon the urge for birth took you from we
Rosebud unopened dropped from life’s tree
Then my teardrops fell in grief’s filigree
To Heaven’s ears I sent my plea
In eternity to meet your tiny heart’s esprit.

I read your comments that this is based on your personal experience. So heartbreaking, and yet one day you will be filled with joy as you see her again in heaven. Monorhyme is difficult to do and your lines flowed nicely. I like your line "through tiny veins scarlet ribbons flowed free."

Hi Juliet! I am so touched by your heartfelt words of comfort and concern. It was a heartbreaking experience, but, like you, I believe one day I will meet face to face with this tiny heart. That keeps on the straight and narrow - well, most of the time! Funny, even after all of these years, it is still difficult to write about this experience as I often wonder what this little soul would have grown up to be. I agree, monorhyme is a challenge. For this poem, I feel like it enhanced the sense of a heartbeat in its cadence. Hope you are well. So wonderful to have you back in the soup! All the blessings of the season to you!

Poems like this, while beautiful in structure and flow leave an air of deep sadness after reading. I feel such sadness - and your sadness - through your poignant words Sam. Gary

Gary, thank you for your words of compassion. Even after all these years there is still an empty space of sadness that your message of comfort binds like a balm this wound. I so appreciate your visit. I do take comfort in knowing this tiny heart resides with God and do look to that day when we will meet again. Keeps me on the straight and narrow - most of the time! Cheers and gratitude!

Thank you so much Andrea for your outreach of comfort! Even after all of these years there is a permanent bruise in my heart as I sometimes wonder what this child would have become in life. But, I find comfort knowing we have a little cheerleader sitting on God's lap rooting for us. I am so grateful for your soothing comfort and support. Blessings my friend!

My Dearest Rhyme Time Friend, your gifted poetic pen flows with such tender, heartfelt and heartbreaking beauty that clutches my heart with both your joy and sorrow. Your verses touch me deeply; "Mother and child joined in pure jubilee" and "Rosebud unopened dropped from life’s tree", I feel the depth of your teardrops. Please accept my condolences for your loss, my sweet friend. Your precious "tiny heart" now sits by God's side. Your poem is such an exquisite expression of joy and grief. Warmest wishes and hugs sent on warm rays of comfort.. ~Susan

My Dearest Precious Rhyme Time Friend of the giant compassionate heart your reply has brought a soothing balm of care to that part of my heart that still feels empty and wounded wondering about this child I never knew. But I do take comfort in knowing this tiny heart "sit by God's side" and look forward to our reunion. If nothing else that keeps me on the straight and narrow! Your sweet condolences are like hugs in darkness. And your beautiful words embrace me like warm summer winds. We were blessed with two beautiful sons after losing this child. I have found sharing this experience has given other women permission to share their stories. Thank you poetry sis for your beautiful friendship. Blessings of joy to you!

Thank you so much for your care and concern Michelle. It was a hard time. Fortunately we were blessed with two beautiful boys after losing this child. I wrote about them in the poem For My Children - the first poem I posted on PS. Having gone through this experience I realized even more fully the fragility of precious life! Your message hugged that still tender place in my heart! So grateful my friend! Blessings!

Michael thank you so much for your words of comfort - your compassion. To this day I wonder about this child - this tiny heart. I so agree with you that we will meet one day in heaven and that keeps me on the straight and narrow - most of the time. It will be a glorious reunion. And, while it was hard to share this experience it has allowed other women to share their feelings and their experience. I feel blessed to be able to reach out to them through this poem. Sending you blessings in the bounty of this season!

Thank you so much Eve. If it weren't for my faith and the support of my community I don't know how I would have gotten through this experience. I so appreciate your beautiful message of support - your blessings. To this day I wonder about this child but then remember I have someone close to God's heart. That in itself is comforting! Take care dear friend. Sending you all the blessings of this harvest season my friend.

Many thanks Pangie! It was a heartbreaking experience. At the time I was volunteering in an OB-GYN clinic. The doctors rallied around me and my husband along with friends and family. I don't often talk about this experience but I have learned by sharing it it gives other women the opportunity to talk about their experience as a catalyst for healing. I am so glad you liked this poem. It has an extra special meaning for me. Blessing and gratitude to you sweet friend.

Deb, thank you for your lovely message, thoughtful words and sharing your story. My heart goes out to you. I can truly say I know how you feel. On the one hand I have to admit sharing this story was harder than I thought it would be. But, on the other hand, if it becomes a forum for women to share their stories then it becomes an instrument for healing. I think often on that little soul and know I have a champion in Heaven. Sending you prayers, blessings and a hug on wings of comfort.
