Time's Malaise

While trail of clouds hovers around
There she lays on fevered ground,
My daughter’s eyes droop low again
As I bear witness to this strain.

No balm can aid the night’s relief
When love’s touch hides a mother’s grief,
That only prayer beads remain
As I bear witness to this strain.

Weeks pass like helpless time’s malaise
Till Marian arms send a bright lei
Reddened, reddened; cheeks flush again
As I bear witness to this strain.

Out of darkness, hope’s moments stir
Clouds echo a girlish laughter,
This healing grace I can’t contain
As I bear witness to this strain.

Well done Nette! Sometimes it's only prayers and faith that are left to us. But these are two great weapons that know no limits! Congrats on a deserved win:) // paul

Congrats on your win! We were truly moved by your entry and enjoyed your perfect blend, subtly and aptly crafted, of an ecclesiastical feel (bear witness) with a modern bent (to this strain.) very of the times. Repetition in reddened, reddened... the mother's mind circling... I hope to put up a winners blog in a few days.. So well done, this. Deep and lovely.

Stunning! Mothers pray, and worry, hope and plead, but never show any doubt or fear to the child. You have expressed this in a beautiful way.

Perfect write just in time for mother's day, Nette; For all the mother, would-be mothers and mother figures. Nobody is in pain more than a mum who can see her child suffering. Nothing is more precious for a mum than to see genuine happiness in her children.

This is one of your best, Nette. Being a mother myself, I could feel the concern and love in every line. Very sweet and endearing!
