Time to Fly

I observed a row of young swallows
Perched on a high wire
Awaiting the call of instinct
To come down the line
Annoucing,
'September is here
 time to fly'.

And as yet
Too young to carry baggage
They will travel light.

And so they wait
Side by side
Shoulder to shoulder
In anticipation of the outward journey
Similar to a que of passengers
At the airport boarding gate.
