Time
With deep regret
I do confess
time is a concept
I cannot grasp.
Decades offer ten
years as dates
to eagerly await
as individual friends.
It causes dismay
to see yesterday
fill tomorrow’s slate
and with mocking ways
consume dreams
right off my plate.
I’ve seen time tick
on watch and clock.
I know the ticking
will not stop.
But couldn’t time pass,
as it does go,
and leave behind
more than just echo?
