The first train in my city called Bytown,
was in 1854 on Christmas day;
some off the tracks would stray,
and of course, there were many a breakdown.
At first the trains were used to move lumber,
to meet needs of others;
sharing like earth mothers,
inside the train lumberjacks would slumber.
The city name changed along with the train,
from Ottawa people travel;
as destinations unravel,
one could ride the trains in the snow or rain.
Over the years there have been cash problems,
a huge station was built awesome;
and the train service did blossom,
have seen pics of the wonderful columns.
It became the Canadian National Railway,
and the rest is history;
some details still a mystery,
but, train travel today is great- I love the sway.
As a child I would listen to the train whistle blow,
within dreams in a little girl bed;
wonderful places I would tread,
now, to cities and through wilderness railways go.
