Ticking

The ticking of my watch
Invades my thoughts.
The never ceasing ticking
Of the seconds that
Pass by
Without looking back.
The seconds of their
Laughter,
Tears,
Smiles.
The seconds of joy they are experiencing
Without me,
And of the sadness
I cannot help them through.
I fight back tears
As my chest
Begins to tighten.
'It's just a little longer,'
I try to console myself,
But still my watch is ticking.
