Through Different Eyes

Her Point of View

This used to be easy, the things we share
And finding comfort in knowing you were there
No hidden meanings or lines to define
Just you being yours and me being mine

I could always find you in the noise
And you would turn any normal moment into joy
I never questioned if you truly cared
You didn’t have to say it, it was always there

Friendship rare, steady and true
The comforting safe I had only found in you
Like a soul I recognized, but wasn’t meant to claim
Not love in that way, just friends of the same

But something was different, I felt it begin
The tone of your voice and the way you leaned in
Your words felt heavier and your stare did too
I realized “us” meant something different to you

Our silence felt louder, the air between us felt tight
Like something unspoken was asking for light
And I knew if I named it, it wouldn’t survive
This simple version of us that felt alive

Can we laugh like before and pretend you didn’t change within?
Can we take this back to the way it had always been?
But feelings don’t listen, they grow in the chest
What was once simple formed into a tangled mess
We lost what we had in the space of that line
Between what was yours and what was mine
And no, you did nothing wrong, but we still fell apart
My truth and your truth broke your heart

I didn’t mean to make it worse
But being honest felt like some kind of curse
Because loving you wrong was still losing you right
I knew I could never become what you needed that night

Sometimes I wonder if you ever think of it too
Of the friendship we had before love complicated you
Because I still remember us in moments so small
In a joke or song, sometimes in nothing at all

And maybe the hardest part I can’t shake
Isn’t the whole of what we lost, but the emptiness it makes
We went from everything to nothing like it was a race
Forever passing as strangers without a face

You’re not one I can call or one I can keep
Just something that lives in the spaces I don’t speak
And I did love you
Just not the way you needed me to

His Point of View

We were easy, I know that’s true
And everything made sense when it was me and you
No lines, no distance or needing to pretend
So how did I lose you by wanting more than a friend?
You laughed like I mattered and said I was your place
Someone you could never replace
So don’t act surprised I started to feel
You helped make something that felt too real to be real

You looked at me like I was safe, I was home
Like I was someone you’d never outgrow
And I believed it, I let myself fall
Not knowing you didn’t mean it like that at all

It wasn’t a choice, I didn’t just decide
I woke up one day and you were inside
Every thought, every silence, in every damn thing I’d do
What was I supposed to do with that?
Not love you?

And you just stood there like everything was fine
Like I didn’t cross some invisible line
Like I could just switch it, turn it all off
As if what I was feeling wasn’t heavy and raw

You kept everything the same
While I had to sit there and bury this change
Pretend I was okay with the role you cast me in
Always a friend on the outside, never let all the way in

Yes, I’m angry, what do you expect?
We can’t be the same after this kind of reject
I didn’t understand, still don’t, if I’m real
How could we have that and you not feel what I feel?

How something so close, so natural and alive
Could just… not exist on your side
I didn’t imagine it or make us too much
When all I ever did was respond to your touch

And maybe I ruined it, okay yeah I did
But I was hurting, I was just a kid
A kid who didn’t know how to carry that kind of pain
And sit beside you as if nothing had changed

And I look away, I don’t say your name
Not because I hate you, but because it doesn’t feel the same
You got to keep what we had in your head
And I had to grieve it like something that’s dead

But I wish I could go back before I knew
Before loving you meant losing you too
I hate that I loved you, I hate that it grew
From something so simple into something I couldn’t undo

I’ve been her
And I’ve been him
I’ve felt the weight of both truths
And neither one changed the ending
Because love doesn’t fail here
It’s just unmatched
And that’s enough
To lose everything
