Three Times Never
When the wind blows black against the trees
and the night is as balmy as ever
You chase me with sparklers, with showers of embers
I'll let you catch me, three times never.
When the music is fine in our kitchen ballroom
and we spin, dizzy-dance together
We collapse in a heap, in the dead puppet's sleep
Catch me grinning? Three times never.
When the ocean is ripe and brimming with life
and our hearts are tied up with good weather
I'll ride on your shoulders as the waves roll us over
Let you sink me? Three times never.
When the look in your eyes leans itself to surprise
in a moment of consumate error
I will push back my tide and the storm that I hide
Will I leave you? Three times never.
