Notes About The Poem

Three is the Loneliest Number

Once, a lonely number three
sat forlornly on my knee.
In his eyes, I saw despair
as he was sitting there.
"You needn't sniffle, cry or pout.
I too have been the odd man out."

No one wants to be the gooseberry, David. But I suspect we’ve all been there. Enjoyed. Terry

Yep, I remember that song. Three Dog Night made the recording of the first version of that song that I heard. I think One (is the loneliest number) was written by Harry Nilsson. His version's pretty good too.
