Thoughts On Religion

The Good Book I read more than twice
when church was in my life.
I went to every Sunday school,
and always I thought the Golden Rule was God’s best advice.

Religous folks and those not so -
I’ve met the lot of them.
Most churches teach there’s but one way
that back to heaven we may go.

These kinds of things – they’ve puzzled me.
The longer that I lived,
I realized there was so much more
than one theology.

More than half the world knows not
even half the things
I believed to be the truth
from all that I’d been taught.

Away from church I would drift
in my middle age,
but I still find there are things
that give my soul a lift.

Nature is religion too.
The rainbow is God’s art:
sunrise, sunset, mountains, fields
and oceans deep and blue.

If you ask me, I can’t say
what church is right or wrong.
But I cannot ever doubt
God wants for us to pray.

Our life on earth is like a school
for us to prove our worth.
I’m positive the soul moves on 
and great truth (I STILL believe) is in the Golden Rule!

Jennifer Proxenos May 23, 2021 at 9:12 AM We lost a couple's friendship who we were very close to for years, - they were reborn Christians who believed the world and the bible's contents were recent maybe 4-5 millenniums ago - we are Christians, but Christians who believe that Christianity and evolution are intertwined which they could not accept. 7 days could be 7 trillion years. Andrea Dietrich May 23, 2021 at 11:02 AM Yes, there is a group of Christians that are very extreme in their views, and I find it ironic that people who profess such rigidity to standards would not also understand that God loved ALL regardless of their flaws, so they in turn, should not judge those different than them. I believe as you do. I cannot fathom the world is only 6 thousand years old! Many things make no sense, and yet many good values were taught by Jesus.

Good, every now and then, to question where we stand, in relationship to what others have taught us of themselves and their world. It's the common denominator for many different schools of thought, which is why I like it so much.

In essence, most religions teach it. As you know, there are some aspects of my own faith that I reject (like the existence of the devil). But there echoes in my head what Nicodemus heard: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Andrea Dietrich May 19, 2021 at 10:48 AM You are very religious and you obviously have a testimony of the Bible and of Christ. I think for some of us, we are unclear about how much of the Bible is true (or not been manipulated by man). I would like to say I have a 100% clear testimony on things. The only thing I can say for certain is that i know there is a Creator and we were not put on this world randomly for no reason.
