This Silence

No more do church bells ring from lofty spire; No more do clock chimes sing from o’er the fire; No more do children call from treehouse fort; No more does traffic stall with sharp report. Dim silence has o’ertaken sea and land, For men have now forsaken fellow man. This silence sounds the death knell for us all; This silence ‘round the reaper comes to call. Let not this silence rule our heart; our mind. Rise up with love; with peace impart mankind.

Seasons don't fear the reaper, Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain. Wonderful lyrics by 'The Blue Oyster Cult' this is what your poem drew me to Deb, nice one. Many congratualtions in the contest....:)

We took the same approach, Deb. To me silence comes at the end of life when "the reaper comes to call." Congratulations on your win! Love, Carolyn

Leaves me wondering what happened and I feel the silence of an abandoned village. Congratulations on your win. Love, Joyce
