This Sabbath Day

Resting alone, with a free mind; I breathe,I relax; Under this avocado tree,I sit; To take shelter from this scorching sun. In the time to come, which I'm not certain about, Under the same tree in a different location, For a different reason, breathless and lifeless, I shall lay as I rest alone. It has been a week, not so easy; It has been six full days,so busy; But this seventh day , I'll walk in the footsteps of my father; And follow the example he gave me; That in six days shall I do all my work, And rest on the seventh. I rest, take a leave from work; To thank him, worship him, glorify his name; For it was by his mercy that his son took on the blame; For the sake of my eternal redemption; From the captivity of death, the penalty of sin. Speaking of death, I know not the hour of its arrival, But I trust the process, That on one fateful day, I shall be victim, And that under this same tree,in a different place, I shall be escorted to sleep, Optimistically awaiting the second advent of the savior. My heart grows humble and cold, Upon this mixture of feelings, But I pray, to God,my creator; I go on this private retreat, Just to have a little talk with Him; And tell him all about my trials, And beg him to rescue me from the power of death And ask him to prepare my heart, To sanctify and consecrate me, As I patiently wait for his return. What else would I do today, Apart from dedicating my life to him, And calling him to lead me all the way, Through the new week? Nothing, nothing else would I do; For it is the Sabbath, On which I have to commune with my Lord; And rejoice in his love to me.
