This Is My Truth
Mother, I need you to forgive me and I apologize,
it was ME who made the decision that day;
that Mother's Day, no one else was strong enough,
yes, I said turn off the life support . . .
The doctor told me you were brain dead,
oh Lord, I wept how can this be happening;
how can the most amazing mother be an empty shell,
but your eyes were no longer seeing this world.
I had sat beside your bed for days, praying,
and I would have given anything to save you, anything;
even my own life- mother, you loved life so much,
and would not have wanted to be a vegetable.
The room was quiet, the machines off,
then, you let out a soft long breath- your face relaxed;
and you were gone. I am so sorry mother,
I am sorry - it was me who set you free . . .
