This Blessed Day Has Passed
This Blessed Day Has Passed
From the instant of waking, not quite
Sure where I am, or why the room’s so cold,
To an hour’s end, as my coffee’s grown cold
And I’ve pushed aside the toast, only
Wanting to look up and out at the rising sun.
It’s my day begun. The music gently comes:
Are those bells I hear in the distance? “Alleluia!”
Some hours pass. The sun stills directly above,
Cutting back all shadows, proclaiming light.
I try to stand, fight the pain. Better to
Draw birds with colored feathers; their out-
Stretched wings ready for flight; their glistening
Eyes stare directly into mine; and their voices start
To sing, “Joy! All to Joy!”
The day’s gone on to circle the world. I lie back
Bidding the night to come as I fold my hands over
My heart, saying the “Our Father...” as Christ taught;
My soul trying to reach up and around with love.
Then a tear rolls from my eye down my cheek, with
Thanks for blessings of the day...I release...My lips
Move without sound. “Holy! Holy is the Lord!
All be peace...Amen...”
