Yes, alot of the land is thristy indeed Sue, I was driving along highway 35 the other day and how sad to see all those cornfields brown and dead, my heart just ached for the farmers who put all their hard work and sweat into planting this year. Good luck again in the contest. Great Haiku!

This is interesting Sue. I hate to put a darker spin on this but when you call this tree a 'spirit' I get the impression that the poor thing waited too long in a drought:(:(

This is excellent. I just finished reading a poetry book by Mary Oliver with the same title of "Thirst." It's an excellent read. I like the essence of this poem, which reminds me of the book. Great job! ~Joseph

Such a vivid image you paint, Sue, using personification to bring life to the elm's spirit! This is a great haiku and I wish you well in the contest. I don't do well with haikus, so I marvel at your ability to say so much in three lines. Great work! Love from long-winded Carolyn
