They Return
The nest in the tree is now bare and quite old
The birds, they had left there, some time ago
Before the winds blew in, the season of winter
Leaving their home before the arrival of snow
South, to the south, they had flown in the sky
Fleeing for safety, in the formation of a vee
Searching for warmth, was what they did seek
So off they went flying, the whole family
Now, as I stand here, looking high in the tree
One, two, no three, birds land on the limb
Maybe, oh maybe, it’s the family coming back
To live in my back yard, all over again
