These Ladies I Draw
These Ladies I Draw
These are the ladies who live
In my mind,
But are not seen by me within
— not forming into
Images behind closed eyes;
Nor walking in sleep’s dreams;
And will not present
Any essence of their portraits until
They run out in the ink
On the tip of my pen’s touching nib To the paper...
Revealed in new contours,
Lines and dots
Of expression,
From a one lady to the many,
As their faces lavish
Their personalities
Out surprising my eyes, too.
From inspired beginnings
— the coaxing to create —
The ladies peek up
From the hidden in me,
Precisely as poems will —
Nudging until I am set down
With pages and pens aligned
Into the flow of what wishes
To surface
In that sudden
Urge to create, to play,
To be realized and live
Through many others’ eyes.
