The Words You Wanted To Hear

I always had the words
You wanted to hear
But my motives
Always arose from fear.

I teased you with
What the future would hold
But a tumultuous reality
Would soon unfold.

I hoped that time
Would camouflage my flaws of character
But I did not realize
All you wanted was a life-long partner.

I’m sorry I took from you
Everything you could give
Not believing love could be finite
Because life is not a test drive.
