The Woods Are Lethally Lovely

With Robert Frost I really
do agree
that from a distance the woods
are lovely.

But the leaves have murder secrets
to keep;
that's why the forest is so dark
and deep.

The trees there quietly kill
each other
in mute struggle to strangle,
to smother

the weaker plantlife for that
precious space
where the sun beams down
its life-giving rays!
