The Widow's Walk

This railing in the sky Guards me in a heart pounding search A place to tread and use your eye Such a tiny space, planks well used, a church For prayers and tears to flow My linen cloth clutched in hand beneath Sunrise, Sunsets glow I watch beyond the land And fear death, sadness and loss Wait, there, did a shadow heave On the horizon, a ship, a kiss upon my cross Its her, the 'Martha D,' or I'm deceived Yes, yes, at last she's home I'll run to hold my love most dear This Widow's Walk a perch used to groan Now filled with laughter, not with tears

Hopeful anguish, followed by ecstatic relief- written with empathy. Really "felt" this write...
