The Western Sky

Gazing into the twilight of the western sky Wondering how I got here Brisk fall winds stinging my face Chill my soul… falling leaves, cold ground, gathering dark… Black trees melt into failing light Lost in the veil of night Howling dog raises the hair on my neck The harbinger of sleepless nightmares… frailty, sorrow, the weight… Flashes of insanity The ache of years Inhaling regret Swallowed, by strangeness… sullen, irrelevant, lost in an empty worn shell…
