The Western Sky
Gazing into the twilight of the western sky
Wondering how I got here
Brisk fall winds stinging my face
Chill my soul…
falling leaves,
cold ground,
gathering dark…
Black trees melt into failing light
Lost in the veil of night
Howling dog raises the hair on my neck
The harbinger of sleepless nightmares…
frailty,
sorrow,
the weight…
Flashes of insanity
The ache of years
Inhaling regret
Swallowed, by strangeness…
sullen,
irrelevant,
lost in an empty worn shell…
