Notes About The Poem

Written May 23 2026 for contest Embrace the Void sponsor Seth Pena

The Void

Turquoise tears race on face
A broken heart empty hardened place
Like a black bird without a song
No decadent words to string along

Love is a blue bruise on battered brain
Memory of you driving me insane
Looking for a yellow happy place
Photograph ripped now I chase

The void with liquor candles and moon
Muse and I bicker that love was doomed
Sipping my soul like Earl Gray
Wishing to dispose of yesterday

Looking up at the ebony sky annoyed
To get through the night
Embrace the void

Karen, congratulations on your melancholy (but perhaps too often true?) write and top-10 placement! Well done! Blessings & very best, Bartholomew

You are most welcome, Karen! You have been very gracious in visiting and commenting on several of my poems, so it is the least I can do. Blessings & very best, BW

"The void with liquor candles and moon Muse and I bicker that love was doomed" great lines, those are the moons longing, & if you've been to that place, it hits hard the void, sad but true. Great is the rhythm & flow as well. faving enjoyed immensely. Hope all is well,KJ! Blessings

The sad and solitary feeling in your poem causes me to want to give reassurance with the hope that time heals. All is summed up in the last line "embrace the void".
