The Virtues of Canned Spinach

Lumpy, limp spinach
  so uninviting
Steaming spinach souffle
  so exciting

Popeye downed the first kind
  straight from the can
Olive never had to learn
to make souffle for her man

Cartoons implied: Canned spinach
  gave Popeye superpowers
'Course 'Wonder Bread' built strong bodies
twelve different ways in half an hour

We used to have a drive through burger place called Wimpy's. They went out of business... everybody wanted to pay Tuesday for a hamburger today, haha! Nice poem, GW - brought back fun memories

Hey, I remember 'Wimpy's,' John! Wimpy was a real caricature of a gentlemen. They even had one in Israel. It was called 'Vimpy's.' Very popular at the time (1972), because they didn't have hamburgers anywhere else back then. Nice to reminisce, John. Thanks, Gershon

Oddly enough, that cartoon made me think canned spinach is vile and slimy - to this day I won't eat it!
