Very nicely done, Sara. One of our family's country home had a veranda--not a lanai, fame ref. here in Hawaii, not a front/back porch, nor balcony or what have you. No to squirrels and deers, but yes to mongooses and piggy's with pointy tusk we call boars--they don't last long in the thickets or the dinner plate. Aloha, William

Also, same salting procedures applies to all the animals, and hot rocks go inside the bigger animals. Aloha

Hints of Rock Salt we call, 'Alaea', is rubbed within the boar's insides, then preheated lava rocks, they're heat retaining piled atop chopped wood and set alaze in an imu/a dugged dirt hole, wood turn to ash, cave-in rocks/usually 3/4 fits inside the boar, atop chicken wire that gets tied and placed in that hole, w/chickens/turkeys/goats/rabbits, etc--but nothing from the sea--voila, Kalua Pig

Thank you, William. Glad that you had a veranda on your country home. Those porches, verandas, balconies or anything like that can be a source of enjoyment. Is boar meat good or does it taste gamey? Your visits always add a special touch. Sara K

Inspiring imagery Sara. If that gunshot met it's mark and ends up on the hunter's table, we should be thankful for its sacrifice. I like everything about your veranda. :)

Why, thank you, Linda. I am not really into killing of the deer, but they will overrun the area if they are not thinned, and they put meat on some tables. I would prefer to go early in the morning and maybe surprise them and take some pictures. Thanks for all your visits to my pages. Sara K

This is so beautiful! I love the word veranda, i dont see many using it though but you’ve used it here so eloquently in this tanka flowing with such deeply moving imagery, delicate and stunning! “Gunshots in the distance” that line though stood out for me. Always a pleasure reading your work

Why, thank you, IE. It is deer season here in our area. We hear the gunshots from hunters practicing and hunters actually shooting a deer. Our dog hears more than we do and she is terrified. Your visit is always encouraging. Sara

Yes, Sara B, nature can be lovely, serene, peaceful on the surface but underneath is the presence of kill or be killed such as animal against animal and man hunting animal. Thanks for stopping by with a nice review of my work. Sara K
