The Tug of War

There it goes again,
disturbing the calm and quiet of my mind
from its peaceful setting.
The shrieking begins; my poisonous parrot
shrills loud that piercing song of my doubt.

My decisions come hard...
always a tug of war, between negative
and positive thinking.
My weak inner self and that mocking parrot
each takes one of my hands and pulls.

I summon my support...
a quiet corner, meditation, and prayer.
The squawking is silenced.
That negative beast is plucked from my hand,
as my strong self leads me to peace again.

Well done and well said, we all get attacked and must center ourselves back in 'truth' as your poem said works for you. I enjoyed this, have missed reading you. My Keeper Upper doesn't keep up as well as I'd like. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Thank you so much, CayCay, for your visit and reading my poem, and for your empathetic comment. My 'keeper upper' is failing a lot these days, so I understand this well! Happy New Year! Hugs, Sandra
