The True Christmas Spirit

As the happy season of the year has come Replete with merry songs and dance When Earth is given the greatest gift That Heaven could ever bestow on mankind It’s time to lift our hearts in devotion deep And sing Hallelujah to our Lord on high This is the time to fill every heart and soul With sweet sentiments of love and peace Letting compassion and kindness rule our hearts Loving all without constraint or condition Letting the King reign the world and every soul Christmas is not in the Christmas tree we set up Or the festoons and decorations we hang Or the gifts we pack and deliver to all we like Or the sumptuous feast cooked and served But in welcoming Jesus wholeheartedly Allowing him to be born into our hearts, Remembering Mary and Joseph had to stray Finding no room, not even in a wayside inn. When a poor man lays open his crucial needs And extends his hands for alms When his face reflects the trials, he has been through Sharing with him something of yours- In it lies the true Christmas spirit, When we see that no child shall cry For a loaf of bread on this day Providing them with something set aside As we indulge in feasts and delights- In it lies the true Christmas spirit. Along with the merry bells that chime If we can ring the message of goodwill to all With thoughts of the deprived, the sick and the dying And all those beyond our walled fence Offering them a bit of Christmas cheer- In it lies the true Christmas spirit. Sometimes we forget what the gift of Love that Jesus brought to the world is all about. We need to turn outward instead of inward and do what we can for others. Thanks for sharing this one and for the visit to my page. I enjoyed reading this one. Sara

Valsa, you have done a stunning job capturing the essence of this in your writing. There are a lot of profound lines that explain its significance, but I think the final one says it best.

That is the true spirit of Christmas, what Dickens had in mind when he wrote his famous book.

You captured the true meaning of christmas Valsa, wouldn't be wonderful if it carried on every day of the year. Where there was peace, no hunger and everyone respecting each other regardless of colour and religion. We live in hope. Tom
