The Tree Couldn'T Fly
THE TREE COULDN'T FLY
This lonely desolate tree wanted to fly
The southern wind told this strange tree
Go up high with the branches and try
Catch the sun, free you would be.
The tree didn’t move up an inch
Couldn’t snap the shackled roots
The sun glided away out of its reach
Told it to catch the star that shoots.
The tree didn’t move an inch higher
Couldn’t make branches go up on their own
In the jeweled sky to hold the shooting star
That told it to catch crimson clouds at dawn.
The tree didn’t move an inch sideway
Couldn’t send in gale the string of leaves far
Beyond the horizon the clouds drifted away
Told it to catch the birds flying in the air.
The tree didn’t move an inch in the wind
Couldn’t make a trap with tattering twig
Birds built nest on bent braches they’d find
Told the quirky tree roots make it stand big.
