The Transcendence of Autumn

Embellished scarecrows set up on the square. Black-caped crows peck away at October’s fare. Prodigious pumpkin, a prop on a hay pile. A kindergartner with a jack-o-lantern smile. Dentists polish their tools as candy corn is on the loose. The soft mallow insides of Brach’s honeydew seduce. Blustery storm shivers and shakes all but conifers bare. Children paddle and swim in a seasonal share. The thrill of kicking through plenipotentiary leaves. Their jewel-tone colors flicker and leap as the fire cleaves. 10/1/2018

"candy corn is on the loose." Okay, I've a good imagination and flashed on giant candy corns waiting for victims to eat! I can hardly wait to slaughter that great pumpkin and do some baking. Last year I tried some herbs on my roasted pumpkin seeds; break out that paprika...now that's delicious! You have me anticipating with drool. Great piece.

Where I'm from (New England) pumpkins are now everywhere. It's a shame so few people eat them or know how to prepare them for delicious soups, cheesecakes, mousses, etc. Being French they were plentiful on our table. Enjoyed your poem. Thanks for the stop by./ M

We have too many things right at our fingertips. The joy of Autumn perhaps taken for granted. Love the picture you paint. Thank you, Maurice!

This poem is so 'October!' Especially impressed with the word 'plenipotentiary' - I have never seen that word before, thanks for teaching me something new today!
