The Topic of Cancer

God, so cruel a plague upon me,
dreams crushed, forsaken,
even as I hopefully step
where the sun leaves me to smile
for those brief but celebrated
        moments.

Through tear blurred windows
dear hearts that suffer more than I
can despise their suffering -
much more than my own sad fate.
I'm called brave but it is they
who smile through pain,
struggle for the right words.

They need not speak.
How lucky I have been
no matter my end
to have known such love.

This one really speaks volumes, the brave fight cancer many alone or ashamed to speak of their illness. This touched me and made me feel your emotions and their pain and sadness

Sandy, these kind of compliments make writing worthwhile because that's why we write. If we are to reread our thoughts in a moment in time it proves we "lived" and if they touch someone else, it's even more special.

A will FAV this for it beautifully, emotionally and completely captures my own often recurring thought/feel. Like an echo, your words brought me, me. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

A poet romances pens for just that reason, right? Now you've touched me again and we are equally heart warmed.
