The Thaw
The thaw was in full force,
washing the sleepers from the Mothers eyes;
sand scouring her cheeks with a babies blush
whisking the leafy crumbs from the corners of her lips
as it chattered down the stream bed.
From the highland where it begins, nearest the sun;
sparrow song fills the air and robins red breasts pair.
Brittle branches snap, twigs unite with winter grass
making nesting down for finch chicks.
Lavender blue crocus, fairy eyed peek at the morn
winter beds now color bursting less forlorn.
Children, milk white, cream, and coffee
rosie cheeks warming in spring light squeal
in playgrounds on squeaky swings and toasty slides.
The thaw in full force, as undisturbed
by the still chill nights, as the pebble in the stream
longing for the voyage.
