I watched the shiny crow pluck woolly tufts of winter’s suit from deer neck at his springtime molt.
All gathered in his clamping beak he winged towards an unseen nest
while deer was grateful for this cheek to pull where antler cannot reach,
and change warm coat to summer best, new clay-red shine against sun's heat.
Deer welcomes tailor's God-gift help for cool in summer heat,
and crow gives thanks to deer, warm night pillow for new fledgling chicks,
soft tufs flown home in crowy beak.
God willing they again will meet.
Next year, same time, same place,
this deer and crow will greet.
