The Survey Man

The Survey Man

He knocks on the door, rat a tat
I was fast asleep on the couch
Another knock, I yawn then stretch,
The postman? Perhaps. Trick or treat?

Not with it, I open the door
Just an inch, but dogs both escape
The man laughs, as I chase their tails
Evade me like a butterfly

I finally get them back in
The man clears his throat, “I’m sorry”
His grin not apologetic
A story to tell back office

“No bother” I wryly retort
“We love playing Tom and Jerry”
“What did you want?” This best be good
“Just a quick survey – have you pets?”
