The Space Between Our Ears

The space between our ears is filled with....
     joyful memories,
it may be filled with dread
it may be filled with music
it may be filled with lead.

The space between our eyes
See beyond what is physical, what we can touch
It reaches far back to the beginning of humanity
It sees our essences, rather than our features
     It is timeless.

The space within our mind
Has touched the water, the earth, the air and the fire
    it has survived countless battles
it has fathered and brought forth many children
    it has ruled many lands
it is infinitesimal compared to the universe,
yet it is vast beyond our comprehension.

We mortals cannot compete with the childish gods
who try to bend us to their wills
We will survive as a race, though we may die as individuals.

The enemies of the soul will try to snuff out the human spirit,
which can be bowed, but it cannot be killed
which can be silenced, but it cries out by other means
it can be imprisoned, but will be forever free.

Though mortals are reminded of their mortality every day
They also know deep down there is more to this world than pain and sorrow.
There is love and love grows where it finds good soil.
