Notes About The Poem

The Soup by Picasso 1902-1903 New Poem 1256

Poverty and hunger are bedfellows.~ The Poet~

Alluring, pleading
Yet it will burn,
Pangs of hunger
Immanent yearn.
Desperate child
So forlorn
For the poverty
To which she was born.
Minds meant to be astute,
Mental distortion
So destitute.
The steaming broth
Humbly offered,
No wrath for their plight
No relief in sight
The bounty so meager
The child so eager
The brushstrokes in blue
Setting the scene
A feeling to subdue,
With empathy pains
The artist explains.
She surges forward, hands raised.
Using hues to convey the mood.
Begging for some food.
Depicting the sign of the time.
It’s far from fine.

A poignant coursing, SV. Sadly, it's not a unique issue as it prevails every corner of our world, my friend. My compliments on your amazing placement in Brian's contest. Aloha, William

Yes, of that I've read in our college library (ere computers) that was during his period since childhood, pretty much his lifetime, that he imbued abstracts as a reflection of his psychological depth.

I believe it depicts a time in Picasso's own life in Spain that poverty was rife, and it affected him, himself for some time. Thank you for your comment. I was surprised and delighted that I met Brian's approval with this one. I am a novice to Ekphrasis. Best wishes SV

A very beautiful poem in a poetic form, Ekphrasis, which is very much new to me.

Agreed, execution justice missy. An ekphrasis in rhyme, only you can pull that off! His blue period, he himself went hungry. It does seem that the girl is happy and well-nourished. Very interesting! Glad to be back...

I have broken my own rule once in a while, but it doesn't make me smile. This one doesn't have perfect rhyme, it doesn't rhyme all of the time :) I think it should be a 'given', that I could be forgiven. :)

Oh, my mistake, I remember reading somewhere, you will rhyme, no matter what type. My bad :) this is one of your best!
