The Soil, So Rich

The soil so rich tall corn grew true The milk was sweet from our Bessie's teat We worked the land for fifty years We reaped with joy what we sowed midst tears Raised three fine sons who now carry on Our legacy, the earth in death, as in birth

The soil is everything! I came from a long line of farmers on both sides!

Being close to soil is refreshing ! Once the soil was rich.... but not any more, at least in our place. Unfortunately farming is not rewarding now as our Earth is dying of pollution from pesticides and chemical manure !

I can't remember a time during my seven decades when farming in America or Israel wasn't a tough go... and reading about it, it seems that it was much tougher for decades and centuries before I was born. Good things don't come easily...

So true, but not regrettable; methinks it was a good life, but, then what would I know?

I only live it for a little over a year, but it seemed to be an honest way to live... My son in Israel has been living it for a while now too. He also likes it... At age 18, I took a career inventory preference test. My two far-and-away favorite professions were 1. farmer 2. soldier. How about that?! :) gw
