The Socialists' Song
The Socialists' Sorrow
What if I opened a store of some
kind?
Would the rattlers in your soul
tell you I am evil in your mind?
What if I worked fifteen hours a
day in my Gyros restaurant and
made more money than you?
Would the big lie 'that the rich
are so evil fester in you?
Perhaps you'd like me better if
I were poor living in a tent?
With rats, feces, and needles all
over the cement?
We should stop the false nonsense
without hesitation!
Many Americans and foreigners
made us a prosperous nation!
We all live quite well in the USA!
But we growl and sneer at a man
or a woman who had the courage
to make their own way?
Shame on us, being green with
malice!
How dare we take Communion
from a priest's chalice?
