The Sinner
It is done!
Oh, snuff out the agony that roars like a torch inside me!
Pull the breath from me in one wrenching swill,
and hurl my hollow carcass to its doom!
My hands, push through the bark of this indifferent tree—
until it absorbs my arms, dissolves the craven cavity of my body.
Let my rattling bones stretch out as barren branches,
black and grasping, like angry fissures across heaven's reach.
My voice must be strangled, ripped from my ranting throat
and cast upon the callous wind.
Condemn my vile being,
and bar my way to redemption.
For I am eternally beyond the healing balm
of forgiveness.
